The Ministry of Defence Depots: Longtown and Eastriggs

Life after HM Factory Gretna

by Sarah Harper

When the First World War ended in 1918, HM Factory Gretna was surplus to requirement.  After attempting and failing re-purposing or selling the factory, HM Gretna would lay dormant.

That was until war broke out once again in 1939.  The Longtown and Eastriggs sites would become large-scale ammunition storage depots, serving throughout World War Two until the present day.

20 page booklet with photographs throughout.

This booklet was printed by the Devil’s Porridge Museum as a result of research conducted by its team.

N.B. This booklet is incorporated within the book, “The Solway Military Coast” by Sarah Harper.
