Biography

Email from relative June 2021: I don’t know anything about the people in the photograph apart from that one was my grandmother. Miriam was born on 20th August 1894 and lived in Tyldesley Lancashire (now greater Manchester). She died in Carlisle on 10 July 1982 at the age of 89. She was married in 1920 and was still in Lancashire in 1910. The story goes that she moved to Carlisle and was joined by her sisters, Catherine (Kitty) born 1897 to 1992 and Ann(Annie) born 1899 to 1987. It isn’t clear if she moved for work but the story goes that they worked at the Gretna munitions factory. eventually Catherine and my grandmother married brothers, John and Thomas Burgess.
