Elijah Thompson Hall was born on 29th May 1878 at Murton, Durham to Joseph and Margaret nee Thompson.
1881- living at 5 Model Street, Murton. Father a coal miner
1891-5 Model Street, Murton Colliery , Durham. Father now a deputy overseer in mine
1901- there is no census evidence for Elijah . He subsequently named a house Durban so it is possible that he was in Durban during the Boer War.
