His battalion served in Aminabad, India, in 1914.His military character was described as “exemplary”, and he was a “non-commissioned officer of the highest character and record “ (7) (11)

In 1939 George and Mary were living in Botchergate, Carlisle, and he was a retired engineer. Mary was a hotel proprietor. George was a special constable and Mary was involved with St. Johns Ambulance. (2)
