John Ferguson Johnston[e] was born at Ecclefechan, Dumfriesshire on 27th April 1898 to George Faulder Johnston and Janet nee Ferguson.

1901- living at Haggs, Dumfriesshire. The youngest of 5 children G/G/G/B/B. Father a road contractor.

17th June 1916 – signed up for active service having worked at Gretna until he was of active service age. His address at sign up was 1 West 11 Township, Gretna and his occupation was engine driver. Parents address was Rose Hall, Ecclefechan.

15th October 1920 married Mary Elizabeth Bell at Tundergarth, Dumfriesshire. They had 4 children. 2 died young

26th December 1968 at Annan Lea, Dumfriesshire of stomach cancer aged 70 and is buried at Kirkpatrick Fleming. His occupation is listed as roadman retired.
