John Alfred Turner was born in Carlisle on  11th April 1885 to Edwin and Margaret nee Wilson.

1891- living at31 King St, Carlisle. Father – general labourer.

1901- Engine fitters apprentice living at 48 South Street, Botchergate, Carlisle. Father -electric tram driver.

1905  Q2– married Elizabeth Ann Nichol in Carlisle.

1911- Engine fitter at a  mechanical engineers living at 58 Roberts Street Newcastle. 3 rooms Living with Lizzie plus 4 of the 9 children that they subsequently ha . Plus his brother in law.

1921 – listed as an ex Gretna worker living in Carlisle . John Alfred, Elizabeth Ann, Edwin and 9 others are on the record .

His occupation indicates that he was probably an engineer/fitter at Gretna.

1939-General  labourer heavy worker living at  Buchanan Place West, Carlisle .
