Biography

Louisa was given a testimonial by the Royal Humane Society: ‘Testimonial to Louisa Goodacre, munition worker, Gretna, for her courageous attempt to rescue a companion who was drowned while bathing in the Solway on June 5.’ ‘Scottish Awards for Gallantry, The Scotsman, 23 August 1918, p. 3.

‘Miss Louisa Goodacre, an employee at Gretna, has been publicly presented the vellum of the Royal Humane Society, a gold wristlet watch suitably inscribed, and a grant of £20 from the Carnegie Fund, in recognition of her plucky efforts to save a comrade from drowning in the Solway.’ – ‘Gretna Worker’s Reward’ Daily Record, 24 October 2918, p 3.
