From the 1939 register Margaret is living with her sister-in-law Kathleen in a house on the complex of the David Lewis Colony. Kathleen’s husband was Richard Handley, Margaret’s brother, who was the Medical Director of the David Lewis Colony.

The full name was David Lewis Manchester Epileptic Colony, but patients came from all over the world. The Colony aimed to provide treatment, education, and occupation for ‘sane epileptics’ and to promote the welfare of epileptics. A charge made for colonists which varied depending on the type of accommodation, varying from dormitories to suites.

It is not certain, but it is possible that Margaret was a teacher at the hospital as they had children living there as well as adults with epilepsy.
