Mary Thornton Meteer was born at Distington, West Cumberland on 29th October 1904 to John James Meteer and Mary nee Hodgson. She was the 3rd of 7 children.
1911 – Living at 7 Shore Hill, Harrington near Workington. 3 rooms. Father a blast furnace labourer
1914 admission to Victoria girls School ,Workington to 05/11/1915 then transferred to Northside School, Workington along with sister Agnes
September 1914 -67 Bromley Street Workington. Father attested to RF Artillery, previously 6 years with 4th Border Regiment
Discharged 1918 – address given is The Hollins High Harrington No longer needed with regiment and posted to iron company in Chesterfield.
WW1 Mary employed at Gretna.
1921- living at Dalston, near Carlisle. Listed as an ex Gretna worker. Mary, Margaret, Joseph and 2 others are on this record
