‘Michael Taylor of Dalston Road Carlisle was working in the acid plant when an explosion occurred. He suffered burns and a compound fracture of his left femur. Consequently his leg was shortened by 2 inches. Taylor, a married man with five children, went to court to get compensation. He was given 15 shillings per week and a lump sum of £150.’
