Biography

‘Rita Napier, age 19 from Arbroath, was bathing in the Solway when the tide was turning and although she was only 10-12 yards out, was drowned. Louisa Goodacre tried to save her but she had to be rescued. She was awarded the Carnegie Medal for bravery.’ – G Routledge, Gretna’s Secret War, (Bookcase, 1999) p. 39.
