Robert Henry Rowe 1883-1942
Robert Henry Rowe was born on 28th January 1883 to Edward Henry and Maria Jane nee Bell at Carlisle, Cumberland.
1891- living at 8, Old Bush Lane, Carlisle with his father , a fish dealer.
14th December 1898 – attested to the army and his service record states that eh doesn’t know his father but he was actually living with him in 1891. His mother lives elsewhere in Carlisle. Robert a labourer of 12 South John Street, Carlisle
Served in India and South Africa. Various charges of drunkenness , striking an officer, resisting an escort, late in bed when should have been on parade, creating a disturbance in the barrack room. Left army 1911.
4th November 1907 – married Agnes Campbell
1911-living at 5 Lorne Place Charlotte Street, Carlisle 2 rooms . Had 4 children since 1907 and 2 surviving.
1912 – wife died
Nov 1914 – August 1915 rejoined the army and served in France
Feb 1915 – “tried and convicted of drunkeness whilst on active service – 42 days “- service record
27th February 1916 knocked down by a motor car (whilst in the army)- injury to ankle which led to wasted muscles and a single limp.
