Samuel Frederick Coates Sprinthall 1894-1973
Samuel was born on 26th November 1894 at Matlock Bath, Derbyshire to Ernest Merwood Sprinthall and Eunice Hulse nee Coates .
1901-at 2, Birkland Villas, Matlock Bath. The eldest of 2 children. B/G. Father a railway clerk.
1911- 1 J [J] eck Street, Stanwix, Carlisle. 6 rooms for family of four. Father a “District Traffic agent for Railway companies” Samuel is an insurance clerk for Pearl Assurance Company.
There is no service record evident for Samuel.
As he is listed as a ship’s engineer in 1920 he was possibly engaged at Gretna as an engineer.
July 1920 – member of crew of “ Imperator” arriving in New York from Southampton. 7th engineer.
The 1921 census places him in Carlisle. The indication is that he is with his parents and sister. He is listed as an ex or retired Gretna worker.
January 1937 he married Dorothy May Atkinson in Kendal, Westmorland.
There is no record for them in 1939 but his parents were at 181 Scotland Road, Carlisle – retired railway worker , Air Raid precautions and first aid post.
9th September 1973 – died at 8 Low Wood, Haverthwaite, Ulverston
