Thomas Clarence Currie 1895-1981
Thomas Clarence Currie was born on 31st May 1895 to Thomas and Margaret nee Lowes at Hayton, Brampton,
1901 – living at Brownriggs, Hayton. Father a road surfaceman. 3rd of our children G/G/B/G
1911- living at Meadow Cottage, Warwick Bridge. Mother a widow- Mill worker packer – woollen. Thomas a farm servant. Five people live in 2 rooms.
Oct 1916 attested to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and was sent to France where he was gassed and sent home in October 1918. He has a disability record sheet in his service record but was not discharged from the army.
He possibly went to H M Factory Gretna immediately following his return home , still a serving soldier and heavy motor driver .
1921 census lists him as an ex Gretna worker living in Dalston, Carlisle
July 1924 married Annie Elizabeth ( Lizzie) Ruddock at Carlisle and lived at 24 East Norfolk St, Carlisle
1939 -Motor transport driver – heavy work, Annie a textile operative yarn distributor.24 East Norfolk Street, Carlisle
17th March 1981 died at 24 East Norfolk Street, Carlisle aged 86.
