Thomas Hewitson 1892- 1947

Thomas Hewitson was born in Carlisle on 30th January 1892 to Joseph and Mary nee Thompson. In 1891 his father was a railway worker living at Edgar’s Court, Margaret Street, Carlisle.

1901- living at 3 Edgar’s Court , Caldewgate , Carlisle ,father a – shoe maker’s labourer. Thomas is the 4th of 5 children. G/B/G/B/B

1911- Cotton operative at Ferguson Bros. 3 rooms , 5 children, 1 died  still at 3 Edgars Court . Father a clogger- own account.

18th Feb 1916 Cotton spinner joined Cheshire regiment following  call up. Address given is 46 Trinity Buildings ,Wigton Rd. Served in France, was at Etaples.

Discharged no longer fit for war service -disability service papers state .Wounded in action April 1917 Gunshot wound to right wrist.

25th September 1917 married Mary Alice Walby St Bede’s Carlisle.

5th April 1918 Mary Alice born.

Following Army discharge was employed at Gretna.

1921 – listed as an ex Gretna worker living in Carlis1939

1939-21 Balfour Rd, Carlisle -Post man.  At least 3 offspring – a son 1927 .

23rd December 1947 died   at 21 Balfour Rd, Carlisle  aged 56.
