William was born in the state of Victoria and trained as an analysing chemist.
He arrived in Plymouth 26/10/1916 on the “Euripides” from Melbourne, along with other Australian chemists and came to work at HM Factory Gretna. He worked in the Cordite Section at Mossband, and is remembered in the Mossband Farewell, and his forwarding address is
32 M’Connell Street, Kensington, Melbourne, Victoria.
Presumably he met his wife Daisy Gwendoline during his time in the UK.
In 1921 the family are living in Chorlton-Upon-Medlock South Manchester with Gwendoline’s parents. William is an Analysing Chemist for Raihurst Importers. There is a record of a W Kelly, Chemist, who sailed from London 01/11/1923 to Melbourne with Mrs G Kelly and two children aged 5 and 2.
