William Thomas Leigh 1890 – 1958

William Thomas Leigh was born on 11th December 1890 at Crewe, Cheshire to Herbert Leigh and Mary Hannah nee Street.

1891- lived at 15 Cobden Street Crewe. Father a steam engine maker fitter.

1901- 15 Cobden Street, Crewe. First of three children boy/boy/girl. His sister born in 1901 died in 1904.

1911- 15 Cobden Street, Crewe, an apprentice fitter. Dwelling with 3 rooms. Father now a brass turner and brother also an apprentice fitter. Mother died.

Quarter 3 1913 – married Louisa Jane Gibson in Carlisle.

Gretna- could have been there for the duration of the Factory.

November 1919- Employed by London and Northwestern Railway.

1921 – William Thomas, Louisa Jane, Herbert William ( son ) and two others on the record. William is listed as an ex or retired Gretna worker. Electoral register lists at 17 Sybil St. Carlisle

6th January 1923 – sailed Liverpool to New York as a fitter. Address given 17 Sybil St, Carlisle

1927 sailed to Washington from Liverpool via Ellis Island singly. 5ft4” tall. Brown hair and blue eyes. Father’s Crewe address given. Returned in June – machinist. Address given 17 Sybil St, Carlisle

1939 ash freighter driver living at 17 Sybil Street, Carlisle. Son born November 1914, a biscuit baker. Daughter born September 1920, incapicated.

17th October 1958 – died in Carlisle.
