Love in Wartime (opening January 21st 2019)
The First World War brought huge changes to the 12,000 women workers at HM Factory Gretna, the greatest weapons factory on earth at that time. They moved to new garden townships, lived in hostels and worked in industry: some also found love.
This exhibition will explore:
-Those who found love at HM Factory Gretna
-Married couples and the impact of war and war work on marriages
-Love stories and scandals including a case of bigamy
-Love on a ration: how to have a successful wedding during times of scarcity and the tricks utilised to make it go well
-Widows and Loss
