Warhammer Club Summer 2025

We’re delighted to announce our  Warhammer Club will be running FREE drop-in sessions during the school summer holidays! 🎲✨

Join us for an afternoon of painting, building and battling suitable for both seasoned players and beginners! This is the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts, share tips, and enjoy some fun.

Whether you are a regular attendee to our club or have never been before and looking for something fun to try during our the school holidays, you are welcome to join us!

All ages welcome and this activity is free! Drop-in and join us!

Monday 19th May 2025

Our Monthly Roundup starts of with Cordite Club! This week we were delighted to be joined by David Gillies who read some very amusing poetry, which everyone enjoyed.

A huge thank you to David for taking the time to do this and everyone in Cordite Club who joined us.

Thursday 22nd May 2025

The 22nd May marked the 110th anniversary of Quintinshill Rail Accident. This involved troops on their way to board ships for the Gallipoli/Dardanelles campaign. Sadly many people were killed and injured as result of this accident and it remains the worst rail disaster in British history today.

To commemorate the 110th anniversary of Quintinshill Rail Accident we currently have a temporary exhibition in place at The Devil’s Porridge Museum, in addition to our permanent display where we remember this accident and all those involved. You can read more about our current exhibition here>

Another group came to visit The Devil’s Porridge Museum today. Thank you to them for joining us and it was lovely to have you.

A group of cyclists came to visit our Café and we hope they enjoyed the food we were able to prepare for them!

If you are planning to visit our Café with a group larger than five, please do take the time to book in advance. This is because our Café is small and can get busy at times, so letting us know can help us ensure we have space available for your group. In the event of large groups, we also really apricate you letting us know what food you would like in advance too, as it can help us ensure we have enough food in stock for your group, reduce wastage, help us serve you more quickly and reduce the stress levels of our staff and volunteers.

Monday 5th May 2025

We were delighted to have Arts and Crafts club on today. Another huge thank you to Wendy for making this happen!

Today also marked the start of a week celebrating VE Day’s 80th anniversary at The Devil’s Porridge Museum. Many of our volunteers and staff are wearing 1940s style clothes to commemorate the occasion. There is also bunting and decorations to celebrate in our museum and Café!

Tuesday 6th May 2025

The first of our VE Day events happened today. Our Cordite Club were invited to a special VE Day lunch were they could talk, share memories, enjoy some street-party themed food and have object handling opportunities.

A huge thank you to all that helped to make this possible and everyone who took the time to join us.

To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day The Devil’s Porridge Museum had a special flag-raising ceremony.

There was bagpipes, singing and poetry. We were proud to have so many people join us for this including the local schools and nursery.

Saturday 10th May 2025

Our VE Day celebrations continued this weekend, in addition to gardening club.

We were pleased to have the living history re-enactors the Time Bandits at The Devil’s Porridge Museum.

There was also a Joining the Squares: A Make Do and Mend Workshop, were VE Day decorations were made out of crochet squares.

Thursday 8th May 2025 

Join us at The Devil’s Porridge Museum as we take part in national commemorations to mark  80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday 8th May 2025.

The event will start with a flag-raising ceremony and official proclamation, accompanied by a bagpiper.

There will be performance of  ‘White Cliffs of Dover’ by singer, Kate Jay for everyone to enjoy.

We are proud to have local schools joining us to commemorate VE Day too.

Everyone is welcome to join us to commemorate the occasion!

In honour of the 80th anniversary of VE Day we have a weekend of celebrations at The Devil’s Porridge Museum!

Many of our museum team will be joining in by dressing up in 1940s clothing, while our Café will be offering a delicious homemade VE Day cake and special menu items to honour the occasion. Subject to availability and while supplies last.

Below are some more activities you can look forward to over the VE Day weekend at The Devil’s Porridge Museum.

 

Saturday 10th May and Sunday 11th May 2025 –  The Time Bandits

 

We’re delighted to have the living history reenactors, The Time Bandits joining us at The Devil’s Porridge Museum!

The Time Bandits’ handling collection of original and replica WW1 artefacts will be in The Devil’s Porridge Museum on display in The Devil’s Porridge Museum’s Education room.

It promises to be fantastic and very informative so be sure to come along and see the Time Bandits in person!

You will be able to see them at The Devil’s Porridge Museum from:

  • 11am to 4pm on Saturday 10th May 2025.
  • 11am to 3pm on Sunday 4th May 2025.

Admission into The Devil’s Porridge Museum is required to see the Time Bandits.

Saturday 10th May  – Join the Squares: A Make Do and Mend Workshop

 

Saturday 10th May 2025. Come and help us stitch together crochet squares to create a lovely VE Day decoration. A fun and simple free activity for all ages. Booking is essential. Please be aware that The Devil's Porridge Museum's admission prices will apply to anyone wishing to look around the museum.

On Saturday 10th May 2025 from 12.30am to 1.30pm we will also have a FREE Make do and Mend Workshop.

Come and help us stitch together colourful crochet squares to create a lovely VE Day decoration – a nod to the wartime spirit of Make Do and Mend!

Stay for as little or as long as you would like to complete this activity within the allocated time of 12.30am to 1:30pm.

A fun and simple activity for all ages.

Please be aware that children under 16 must be accompanied throughout this activity by an adult over the age of 18, who will need to fill in a a consent form. Young people aged 16 or 17 may attend unaccompanied if they bring written consent and the mobile telephone number of their parent /guardian.

The Devil’s Porridge Museum is proud to be working with Eastriggs Community Group to present a VE Day Scarecrow Competition.

This will be running from 5th to 11th May 2025.

We’re asking local residents of Eastriggs to make and display your own VE Day themed scarecrow in their garden.

There will be a prize for the best scarecrow!

We now have broom handles and straw at The Devil’s Porridge Museum to help people make their own scarecrows. Call The Devil’s Porridge Museum on 01461 700021 to arrange collecting these materials.

Monday 31st March

It was Cordite Club day and this week the attendees enjoyed a sausage in a roll and a homemade cake. As well as card bingo, there was some chair aerobics to get everyone moving.

We are researching the historical and contemporary factors that drive migration within the Commonwealth nations, exploring personal narratives of migration, and examining the meaning of home. Our project seeks to foster empathy and awareness of the varied experiences of migration and home across different communities.

What we Aim to Achieve:

  •  Understanding the historical and present-day reasons behind migration within and beyond Commonwealth countries.
  • Explore personal migration stories and different interpretations of “home.”
  • Critically, examine the Commonwealth’s legacy, including its colonial history and its impact on migration and identity.
  • Address challenges related to colonialism, inequality, and diverse migration experiences.

What we Are Looking For:

  • Individuals from Commonwealth countries or with Commonwealth heritage.
  • Personal stories of migration and how you define “home.”
  • Perspectives on the impact of the Commonwealth on migration and identity.
  • Insights on socio-political issues related to migration and the Commonwealth.
