2nd December 1916 – arrived in Plymouth.
1916-1918 – employed at H M Factory, Gretna as a chemist living at Anzac House, Eastriggs.
1918 – moved to Avonmouth as did many other chemists who were involved in the production of mustard gas.
26th December 1918- married Isobella Gilmour Naismith Ferguson at Dunfermline. She was described as a munition worker and he a chemist.
‘Cliff Abbott was an industrial chemist in the Australian Army, who was involved in the manufacture of mustard gas.
