John Burt Robb followed his father into engineering, and worked as an engineer before, after and during WW1 at Gretna. In 1921, John and his family were still living in the same place, and working at HM Gretna as he was during WW1. Their youngest son (1921 census) was born at Gretna in 1920.

Between 1921 -1937, John moved to Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire, where he died at 50 years, and is buried in the cemetery. His death entry states he was working as a briquette merchant, and address was 17 Castle Street, Sanquhar.
