John was born and brought up in Chicago, living at 6600 Evans Avenue.
He was drafted into the American infantry in June 1917. He was shipped to Europe and somehow came to work at HM Factory Gretna, presumably because of his skills as a steam fitter.
He is remembered on the Mossband Farewell as a member of the operating staff at Mossband.
In his obituary in Chicago’s Southtown Economist 11th March 1951, her served for more than two years in France and Germany.
John returned home and married Ethel Andrews and they had two children. He worked as a steam fitter for the sanitary department in Chicago.
