Trivia / any other information:

Joseph was born on 5 September 1875 although his naval documents give his date of birth as June not September which at the time of joining up to serve in the Royal Navy made him a year older!

He had at least four siblings. He married Katherine Standen in 1897 and soon they were blessed with their daughter Edith in 1898. However tragedy struck when their son Arthur died within a year of birth (1900-1900). Their second daughter, Elizabeth Alice was born in 1901. Joseph was now working for as an Insurance Agent and his family were living in Chorley, Lancashire.

By the 1911 census the Iddon’s had moved back to Preston and Joseph was driving for a Preston based Mineral Water Company.

There are no confirmed details as to any military service during the Great War but he moved with Catherine to 23 Annan Road Gretna as a fireman/ driver. Their time at Gretna amounted to less than two years.

By 1921, the family had moved back to Preston and both daughters, Edith and Elizabeth were involved in the production of lemonade for the same mineral water company, W.S. Haysworth & Co as Joseph was a salesman/ driver for them. Haysworth & Co had premises in the Aqueduct Street area of the town.

By the end of 1921 both Edith & Elizabeth were married.

At the time of the 1939 registration, Joseph was still selling mineral waters and they were living on Lovat Road, not far from Aqueduct Street, although it appears he was possibly employed by a Somerset company, W & E Hicks from Frome.

Joseph died during the first quarter of 1946.
