No reference to Matthew Reardon has been found before 1881. It is possible that he was born as Matthew Riordon, but he does not appear under this name either.
Although Matthew describes himself in the 1918 Electoral Roll as a ‘Storekeeper” (see above) there has been no evidence of this found in the 1918 valuation roll.
