Maurice Matthews was born on 28th February 1901 at Sculcoates, Hull, to widowed Ada Elizabeth Taylor Matthews nee Lambert. He was adopted by Ada’s second husband, John Frederick Yule who she married in 1902. Maurice Matthews became Maurice Matthews Yule.
1901- his mother, Ada, was living, widowed with her parents at 46, Symons Street, West Sculcoates, Hull. Her father was a Railway goods foreman.
1907- Maurice was admitted to Victoria Road Juniors (boys) School
1911-living at 31, Pearl Street, Middlesborough. Maurice listed as son to John Frederick. He is the eldest of 2 boys. There are 4 rooms. Father is a moulder. Years married is stated as 11 but the marriage took place in 1902.
WW1- employed as a labourer at H.M.Factory, Gretna living at 70, Melbourne Avenue, Eastriggs.
1921- listed as being in the army.
1931- married Annie Jones at Middlesborogh. They subsequently had 5 children.
