Robert McKenzie Douglas Smith was born on 4th January 1897 in Chorlton, Lancashire to George and Jessie nee McKenzie. Both parents were Scottish.  

 

1901- living at 2 Vernon? Avenue, Eccles, Lancashire. Father is an electrical engineer. Robert is the youngest of 3 children.  

 

1911 – 1 Lister Road, Fairfield, West Derby, Liverpool. 4 rooms. Father widowed- electrical engineer. Brother is an electrician.  

 

WW1- employed at H M Factory Gretna as a Fire Brigade officer living at 74 Melbourne Avenue, Eastriggs (electoral register) Too young for active military service.  

 

20th March 1920 married Annie Ledward Victoria Parr at Liverpool. He of 40 Charlton Road, a cinema operator. They subsequently had 5 children including one born in 1916.  

 

1921 – emergency service attestation King’s Own Battalion. Served 3 months. 

 

23rd November 1951 died Liverpool aged 54.
