Appeared in the Dumfries and Galloway Standard, 3rd March 1917: ‘Thomas Hurley, nitro-glycerine worker, Gretna, pleaded guilty at Dumfries on Wednesday to a charge of stealing two pairs of boots and a pair of canvas slippers belonging to the Ministry of Munitions; and Sheriff Campion imposed a fine of £3, with the alternative of fourteen days in jail.’
