Trivia / any other information:

 

Thomas grew up on a farm near Penrith, Westmoreland (now Cumbria). At 14 yrs he was working as a farm servant in a nearby village.

 

On 15th January 1900, Thomas joined the Imperial Yeomanry, and sent out to South Africa, where he was shot, and taken to a hospital. Having survived, Thomas was discharged on 22 October 1900, serving a total of 287 days. Thomas is described as 5ft 9 ¾ inches tall, complexion fair, eyes hazel, and hair light brown.

 

Back home, Thomas married Edith on 23rd July 1902, Penrith.

By 1911, the couple had 2 children, with Thomas now working as a Tramway Motor man for Newcastle Upon Tyne Corporation, living in Banwell, Newcastle.

 

The family arrived in Canada in 1924, after the British government paid their fare, where they arrived in Shillington, Ontario. Thomas’ parents has already moved there some years before to farm. Unfortunately 7 weeks after arriving, Thomas’ wife Edith died suddenly on 22nd July 1924.

 

Thomas parents died in the 1930’s, and Thomas died in 1951, though no actually date of death or even date of birth can be found through the documents.

Thomas & Edith are in Shillington Cemetery, Shillington, Cochrane District, Ontario.
