“THEFT GRETNA. Valentine. Duffy, apprentice electrician, Eastriggs, Dornock, pleaded guilty to stealing pair of boots at Gretna factory on 18th June. Fergusson stated that the boots had not been supplied to accused at the factory, and they must have been taken from the store. Mr I. F. Edgar, solicitor, explained on behalf of accused that he had been employed at Gretna for some time. Boots were served out to the workers where the acid destroyed their own boots accused got a pair and as he had had a pair of his own boots destroyed, he thought he was entitled to walk out with the boots belonging to the factory. The Sheriff remarked that smarter supervision should be kept at the store. Certainly, people ought not to able to into a store and pick things like that. He dismissed accused with an admonition.”
