Email from Catherine Annie’s granddaughter in Feb 2020: ‘My grandmother was Annie Fowler /Boak who came from the north east. She lost 2 daughters soon after delivery. Then she had two living boys. There was also Hilda Holmes / Bird and Edith Holmes/ Riley. Neither were able to conceive more than 1 child. They all worked at Gretna. I’ve often wondered if there was a connection.’
