Cornelius Beck was born on 4th June 1893 in Derby to William George and Elizabeth nee Langford.  

 

1901 – living at 71, Watson’s Buildings, Rye Harbour, Sussex. Father a foreman excavator- navvy. 4th of 7 children.  

 

1911 – 12 Humberville Terrace, Immingham, Lincolnshire. A driver in dock construction, nephew to the householder (Father’s sister – Ann Wild)  

 

9th June 1915 – attested to Royal Navy  

 

1917/1918 at H M Factory Gretna, listed on Electoral Register as a sailor living at India House, Dornock.  

 

January 1917 married his fist cousin Maria Wild at Longtown. Subsequently had 8 children.  

 

20th February 1919- discharged  

 

1921 – Cornelius, Maria, Donald and 5 others are on the record in Billingham, Stockton   

Tees. 

 

1939 – Date of birth shows as 21st June 1893. Living at 451 Heathway, Dagenham, Essex. An assistant foreman cable layer.
