Following his return to Australia on the SS “Ascanius”, departing England on 09 Feb 1919. He landed from quarantine in Sydney on 04 Apr 1919. His forwarding address was St Peters, NSW. He was retrospectively enrolled as an Australian Munitions Worker under the joint Australian government/ British government scheme to supply skilled workers to the UK for the War effort. He was issued with Australian Munitions Worker Badge No. 4077. He returned to his position in the NSW Department of Agriculture on his return to Australia. Edward was a vice-president of the Public Service Professional Officers’ Association in 1925.He was promoted to Senior Chemist in the Department of Agriculture around the same time. It seems he was a very popular commentator in agricultural issues in the rural press. Hilda died in 1941 and Edward remarried to Mary Ann Sutherland in 1944. Edward retired from the NSW Government Department of Agriculture as Chief Chemist and Inspector under the Fertilizer Act on 18 Jun 1947, He died at his home in Hunters Hill, NSW in 1953.
