Margaret Alice Laidlaw was born at Spittal, Berwick on Tweed on 29th December 1899 to Robert, a fisherman, and Isabella Mosely nee Wood.

1901 – living on Princes Street, Spittal, Berwick on Tweed

1911- 2 Sandstell Road, Spittal in 2 rooms for 13 people.  11 children all survived. Father a fisherman

1917  employed a Gretna as a munition worker living at 2 E East

Dumfries and Galloway Standard – Saturday 03 February 1917

“CHARGE AGAINST MUNITION WORKER. Margaret Laidlaw, young woman, 18 years age, munition worker Gretna, was charged with stealing two cotton blouses, the property of Madge Thomson, a fellow-worker; cotton pillow belonging the Ministry of Munitions;, and gold ring, the property of Jeanie Simpson. Accused  pleaded not guilty, and was remanded until to-day, bail being fixed at £2.”
