William was born in Liverpool, where his childhood was spent living in different areas of Lancashire (1881, Oldham, Manchester at 6 years old & 1891 Heaton Norris, Stockport, 16 years). This may be partly to do with his father’s occupation at the time of Railway Contractor.
1901 – They moved to Morecambe where William and his father worked as a Joiner & Builders.
1911 – William was a Clerk of Building works for the council, living in Heywood, Lancashire.
1907 – Married Gertrude nee Robinson in Bury, Manchester
William continued working as a clerk, and in 1921 was working as a clerk for a tobacco company.
1939 – working back for Building & Public Works as a clerk.
William, his wife Gertrude (1887 – 1958), his son James (1918 – 1937) and granddaughter Patricia (1932 – 1938) are all in Preston & Tynemouth Cemetery, North Shields, North Tyneside.
William died in Scaffold Hill Hospital (Isolation), this hospital (1914 – 1986) was known locally as the fever hospital, and his newspaper death entry states that he was in there after a long illness.
