Archibald James McDonald Bell was born in Allonby, Cumberland on 4th April 1880 to William McDonald Bell and Anne nee Harkness

1881- Living at Allonby, near Maryport. Father a police constable. 6th child. Both parents Scottish

1891 – at Nook, Aikton, near Wigton, Cumberland. Now the 6th of 7 children. Father a police officer County Constabulary.

1901- boarding at 35 Nelson Street, Carlisle. A colour mixer at print works.

1911- 87 London Road, Carlisle- boarding. His younger brother James is also boarding. Archibald is a colour mixer, his brother is a railway porter.

Discharged from Border Regiment with disability. ( pension record)
