Charles William Witts was born in Stroud , Gloucestershire in 1854 to George Witts and Emma nee Mayo. 1861- at Paganhill, Stroud. Father a machine fitter. 2nd of 5 children. 1871- mother widowed- a cloth burler. Charles a clerk. Still at PaganHill. 1881- a commercial clerk unemployed 16th October 1884 married Eliza Critchley at Cainscross, Gloucestershire 1891- at Cashes Green, Gloucestershire. A book keeper with 2 daughters. 1901- living at York Cottage, Cainscross, with 2 other families. A book keeper 1911- Cashes Green, Stroud, Only had 2 children. 7 rooms. A merchant tailor’s foreman. WW1 too old for military service- employed at Gretna 1921 – Charles William, Eliza, Louisa and 4 others are on the record at Stroud. Charles listed as an ex or retired Gretna worker. July 1931 – died aged 77 at Stroud
