William Watson was born on 6th August 1875 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne to John and Elizabeth nee Oliphant

1881- living at 77 George Street, Newcastle. Father a railway guard. John the 2nd child.

1891 -3 Shield’s Court, Carlisle, a general labourer aged 15. 7 sons and 1 daughter

3d May 1898 – married Mary Ann Salmon in Carlisle. A widow with a baby.

1901 – a Civil guard prison service , Dartmoor Prison Tavistock , Devon . 1 stepson and 1 son. Address is 8 block

1907- son George born at Wakefield- possibly employed at HM Prison Wakefield.

5th August 1910 – married as a widower Catherine Bow at Princetown, Tavistock, Devon. Described as a civil servant.

1911- 9b Block, Princetown, Dartmoor. Civil guard HM convict prison guard. Family not included.

WW1 employed at Gretna

1921- William, Catherine, George Joseph and 1 other are on the record in Carlisle. William listed as an ex or retried Gretna worker

1939- at 7 Dale Street, Carlisle- prison officer retired

March 1940 died in Carlisle aged 65
