Charles Edward Armstrong was born on 22nd May 1896 at Gateshead, Durham to Charles and Mary Ann nee Barras.
1901- living at 9 Villa Place, Gateshead. A twin boy plus another brother. Father an insurance agent.
1911- at Bay Horse Lane, Carlisle. 2 rooms. A stationer’s errand boy. Father a commission agent. 6 children born, 4 surviving
December 1915 – attested to Border Regiment. Address 18 Brewery Row, Carlisle. Transferred to Machine Gun Corps.
1st October 1917 – service record indicates he was charged with “not complying with having mosquito net properly closed. Caught malaria and sent home.”
1917 onwards employed at H M Factory Gretna.
1919 – address was still Brewery Row.
1921 – in Carlisle. Charles Edward, Charles, Mary Ann and 2 others are on the record. Charles listed as an ex-Gretna worker.
1939 – living in Bristol. Documented as married but no wife listed. A Glycerin Refiners general labourer
April 1987 – died in Carlisle aged 90.
